We’re on a mission to bring learning to life through Art. Using the Swindon Collection of Modern British Art, we’re changing the way students and schools experience and engage with Art.
‘Art on Tour’ provides inspiring art engagement and outreach in Swindon schools. From an immersive pop-up gallery (Mr Bomford’s Travelling Imaginarium), to interactive ‘kickstARTer’ workshops, we encourage students to quite literally explore the world of art. We’re also sharing tools to help schools continue this art engagement and develop their art offer, through staff CPD sessions and free online resources in our ‘Learning Library‘. This programme is FREE to schools, thanks to the support of Swindon Borough Council.
Based around the Swindon Collection of Modern British Art, ‘Art on Tour’ brings this nationally significant collection direct to schools. We recognise the huge demands on schools, in terms of time, budgets, staffing and curriculum pressures, and so we’re bringing the Collection to you! We hope that this fresh approach to Art Education will break down barriers to cultural engagement.
Our main outreach offer is currently on hold, but we have launched the online platform ‘Art on Tour At Home’, so that people can continue to enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by our amazing collection. ‘Art on Tour At Home’ includes this site and regularly released learning resources on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
If you are interested in being part of the outreach programme later on in the year, or would like more information on the project, please contact the Art on Tour Learning Officer, Mags Parker – firstname.lastname@example.org
The Swindon Collection of Modern British Art – what’s the big deal?!
The Swindon Collection of Modern British Art is a hugely significant resource for schools, and we want to shout about it! With over 600 artworks, including three Turner Prize winners, the Collection is acknowledged to be one of the most nationally significant outside London. It covers 140 years of modern art, and includes household names like L.S Lowry, Lucian Freud, Grayson Perry, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Michael Craig-Martin, Howard Hodgkin, Frank Auerbach, and Richard Long. It features work from most major movements and schools in Modern British Art, as well as an extensive collection of work by home-grown Swindon artists like Desmond Morris. Perhaps most importantly, it’s all free to visit and right on our doorstep!
