About Art on Tour

More Art… More People… More Places

Welcome to Art on Tour – Swindon Museum and Art Gallery’s community engagement programme. We aim to share Swindon’s fantastic collection of modern art as widely as possible, providing inspiring opportunities for anyone and everyone to experience art, wherever they are.

With over 1000 artworks, including Turner Prize winners and some of the biggest names in British art, the Swindon Collection is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary British Art in the UK. It spans 150 years, and includes household names like L.S Lowry, Lucian Freud, Grayson Perry, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Michael Craig-Martin, Howard Hodgkin, Frank Auerbach, and Richard Long. It features work from most major movements and schools in Modern British Art, as well as an extensive collection of work by home-grown Swindon artists like Desmond Morris.

Art on Tour shares Swindon’s art collection across the town, working with schools, colleges, businesses, community centres, parks, cultural venues, and healthcare and wellbeing organisations. We want to find ways to allow more people to benefit from the Collection. This includes taking more artworks out of storage to share them with communities across Swindon, the development of online access and a comprehensive schools programme.

Art on Tour is funded by Swindon Borough Council.
